PAPAR: The public should continue their daily activities without any fear of threats from neighbouring countries or extremists following the death of al-Qaeda leader, Osama bin Laden recently.

The assurance was made by Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar who assured that the security in the country is under control and safe as police have not received reports of any threats in the country, its people as well as foreign nationals.

“The situation is under control and our country is safe from any threats.

“However, we will consistently monitor the situation and increase the presence of our personnel at locations where the United States and other countries have interests,” he said.

Khalid said the police always ensured the safety of the country, the people as well as foreign visitors.

“The public, including foreign visitors, can carry on with their normal activity without any fear as the police are always monitoring the security level in the country,” he said.

Khalid said this at a press conference after presenting three cheques totalling RM243,023.90 to the late police constable Mohd Ansari Abd Rashid’s mother at Kampung Kawang here yesterday.

The cheques were from MCIS Zurich Insurance Bhd (MCIS Zurich), Takaful Berhad and Etiqa Takaful.

The late Mohd Ansari, who was working at the police headquarters in Bukit Aman, was killed in a road accident in December last year while on his way to the police training centre (Pulapol) at Jalan Semarak in Peninsular Malaysia.

Also present were Assistant Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Ghulam Haidar Khan Bahadar, Bukit Aman Special Branch director Datuk Fuzi Harun, Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Hamza Taib and state Deputy Commissioner of Police SAC Tan Kok Liang.
