SIBU (Oct 6): In line with the Sarawak Civil Service’s (SCS) vision of becoming a world-class civil service by 2030, the Land and Survey Department of Sarawak (JTS) has reaffirmed its commitment to excellence through the second edition of its ‘Level Up: Empowering the Heart of Service’ programme, held at RH Hotel here recently.
According to the department’s Public Relations Unit, the initiative – targeted at implementation staff (Grade 1) – forms part of its ongoing efforts to enhance competency, professionalism, and human capital development, all of which are central to strengthening service delivery.
The first series was held in Kuching on July 10-11.
This latest two-day event brought together 290 JTS personnel from headquarters and divisional offices across Kuching, Miri, Sibu, Betong, Kapit, Serian, Bintulu, Samarahan, and Limbang.
In his address, JTS director Awang Zamhari Awang Mahmood hailed the implementation staff as ‘the backbone of the department, playing a crucial role in delivering services to the public’.
He reminded officers to uphold three key principles: time discipline, integrity, and quality of work – and also encouraged them to pursue promotions, further their studies, join innovation initiatives, and take on leadership roles.
He expressed hope to see more grassroots staff being recognised alongside management and professional officers in future.
The programme also featured three keynote speakers.
On the first day, SMT Learning Solution principal consultant Telemachus Lo presented ‘Facing Today’s Work Challenges in the Public Sector’, focusing on workplace values, productivity through emotional intelligence, and cultivating a culture of quality.
Retired ASP Rahmat Fitri Abdullah, an ‘Anti-Scammer Ambassador’, highlighted the growing threats of online scams and shared preventive strategies to safeguard civil servants.
Meanwhile, Hafiz Mustapha conducted a session on ‘Social Media, Emotions and AI: A Civil Servant’s Survival Kit in the Digital Era’, equipping participants with the skills to navigate cyberspace responsibly.
