KUCHING (June 21): Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today paid a condolence visit to Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri following the passing of her husband, Datuk Kamil Misuari, on June 18.
Accompanying Anwar were Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Dr Mustapha Sakmud and Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
“I extend my condolences to her family and pray for strength and patience for them,” said Anwar.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development, Kamil’s remains were managed in Kuala Lumpur following his passing.
His remains were then brought to Nancy’s official residence at Taman Serira, Jalan Menggerris, Petra Jaya on June 19, where members of the public paid their last respects.
Among those who paid tribute were Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, as well as ministers and deputy ministers.
He was later laid to rest that evening at the Samariang Muslim Cemetery.
Kamil and Nancy had been married for more than 40 years and were blessed with three children: Faeroz, Farouk and Bibi Freka.
Born in Lahad Datu, Sabah, on March 30, 1961, Kamil was of Idaahan descent.
He held a Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons) from Universiti Teknologi MARA and built a career in the financial sector before retiring from banking in 2008 to venture into private enterprise.
He was also actively involved in community and cultural preservation efforts as patron of Persatuan Seni Budaya Ida’an Segama and a member of the Rotary Club of Kuching Central.
