KOTA KINABALU (July 28): A 12-year-old girl who was reported missing after failing to attend school in Likas on Monday was found safe in Inanam on Tuesday.
A family member, who declined to be identified, shared on social media that the girl had been found and was in police custody to assist in investigations into her disappearance.
The family member also expressed appreciation and gratitude to the police and members of the public for their concern and for sharing information that helped lead to the girl’s safe recovery.
Earlier, the official website of the Kota Kinabalu District Police Headquarters (IPD) issued a statement regarding the girl’s disappearance after being dropped off in front of a secondary school (SMK) in Likas at about 5.55 am on July 27.
Checks later revealed that she did not attend school, prompting her family to lodge a missing person report.
The case drew widespread public attention after police issued a notice seeking information on her whereabouts.
Police also expressed their appreciation to members of the public who came forward with information and assisted in efforts to locate the girl.
