MIRI: Wushu Association Miri will be sending a contingent for the Sixth Borneo International Martial Arts Tournament to be held in Sibu.
The association’s instructor master Tiong Ching Chiong said yesterday the tournament would be held from 15 to 17 August at the Sibu Civic Centre.
“The team consists of 15 elite athletes from the association to compete among 220 best from Indonesia, Brunei and Peninsula.
“This is the second time Wushu Association Miri participate in the international level wushu championship,” said Tiong.
Earlier the association received a grant from Assistant Minister of Communications Datuk Lee Kim Shin.
According to Tiong the organisers of the competition were Sibu Martial Arts Association, Chen’s Taijiquan Association of Sarawak, Sarawak Chinese Martial Arts Association Kuching, Dong Bei Bei Wushu Academy and supported by Malaysia Chen’s Taijiquan Association and Federation of Dragon, Lion and Wushu Sarawak.
“The competition is held in conjunction with the 12th Borneo Cultural Festival, to promote the Chinese cultural and martial arts,” said Tiong.
