KUCHING: Charitable organisation Hope Place paid a courtesy call on Social Development minister Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom and Welfare, Women and Family Development Minister Datuk Fatimah Abdullah to hand them t-shirts of Affin Hwang Capital’s ‘Run For Hope’ charity run at their respective offices yesterday.
Founder Kelvin Wan revealed in a press release yesterday that Affin Hwang Capital organised the run to raise funds in aid of Hope Place to reach out to more needy people in the community.
To be held tomorrow (Oct 4) at 6am at the Association of Churches, the run has attracted some 1,800 runners.
It is divided into three categories namely 3KM Children and Parents, 6KM Adults and 3KM VIP.
Affin Hwang Capital is expected to hand over the funds to Hope Place at the closing ceremony of the event.
Hope Place is a non-governmental organisation that visits poor and less fortunate families to contribute essential food items like rice, cooking oil, sugar, salt, biscuits, and noodles.
Plenty of these families or individuals barely earn enough to get through the month, hence many are grateful with the assistance of these basic necessities delivered to them.
For families with children with special needs, or with elderly or disabled people, they provide
milk powder, oats and diapers as well.
Hope Place carries out their aid deliveries once every two months because of the many families on their recipients list. Currently, they support more than 127 families.
