KUALA LUMPUR: Police are waiting for reports from the Chemistry Department and Forensic Unit to complete investigations on a hit-and-run accident which claimed the lives of three Hindu devotees at the Seremban-Kuala Lumpur Highway on Jan 23.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Tajudin Md Isa said the reports were expected to be completed soon and submitted to the public prosecutor for prosecution.
“Currently, police are still waiting for the full report from the department to charge the car driver who was involved in the accident. I expect the investigation report to be completed soon,” he told reporters after attending the Kuala Lumpur Police Contingent Headquarters monthly assembly here yesterday.
In the 8am incident, three devotees were killed and three others seriously injured when a car ploughed into them near Desa Petaling exit while they were walking on the emergency lane of the highway.
Police identified the dead as K. Saravanan, 45, C Kannan, 51, and S Papa, 53, while the injured were P Mageswaran, 40, S Anjalai Devi, 44, D Darrshen, 18.
All of them were among 40 Hindu devotees who walked from Seremban to the Batu Caves to celebrate Thaipusam on Jan 24.
The 25-year-old driver of the car surrendered himself at the Jalan Bandar Traffic Police Station on the same day.
The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of The Road Transport Act 1987. — Bernama
