TAWAU: The Tawau Municipal Council (TMC) will continue to demolish houses rebuilt at the old airport site near the Muhibbah Park that was destroyed by fire.

Its president, Alijus Sipil, said TMC totally banned any forms of construction on the burnt site and the fire victims were already warned against rebuilding their homes.

“TMC stresses that the reconstruction of houses on the site at the old airport is not allowed. TMC with other agencies will continue the demolition of structures erected next week.

“Notice and reminder to residents involved have repeatedly been given where some large population in that area was offered housing at Semarak PPR,” he said yesterday after receiving a cheque for RM49,200 from Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd to help the fire victims at Mile 2 Apas.

He said TMC would propose some of the land for the expansion of the Muhibbah Public Park.

He added that the existence of the settlement there contributed many side effects to the public park even before the fire incident happened.
