PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak yesterday reminded civil service officers and staff to focus on the government-determined key results areas to ensure the people’s well-being.

These areas to be focused on included public transportation, housing, and cost of living, he said, adding that they would ensure a better future for the nation.

“We must give preference (to these areas) and must not lose our focus. Whatever we do is for the people and the people come first.

“The people must be the cornerstone of all government policies,” he said at the Aidilfitri reception of the Prime Minister’s Department here.

About 3,000 officers and staff of the ministry and its agencies attended the open house.

Najib’s wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Cabinet ministers and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa attended the reception.

Najib, who is also the Finance Minister, said the LRT extension launched recently, the MRT to be launched at the end of this year and the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High-Speed Rail project announced yesterday would benefit the people and country.

“This is the picture of a progressive Malaysia,” he said.

At the same time, Najib advised civil service officers and staff to maintain national security which he said had grown into a major challenge for the nation.

“I regard this (occasion) as an opportunity for us to strengthen bonds. The staff at this ministry are those who translate government policies into effective action and implementation to fulfil all government policy objectives,” he said.

At the event, Najib presented RM3.82 million in tithes from the Federal Territory Islamic Affairs Council for distribution to 25,500 monthly aid recipients from among the poor in the Federal Territory. — Bernama
