GUADALAJARA, Mexico: Malaysia has been offered by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to organise its international convention in 2012.

Information Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim said this was the first time Malaysia had been offered to organise the ITU conference, which would also be the first to be held in the Asian region.
“We readily accepted the challenge,” he told Bernama and RTM after the well-attended Malaysian reception at the Presidente Intercontinental Hotel here Wednesday in conjunction with the 18th ITU Plenipotentiary Conference which started last Monday and will end on Oct 22.
Malaysia is seeking re-election to serve a fourth consecutive term from 2010 to 2014 on the ITU Council.
Malaysia is placed in the Asia and Australasia Region and will contest for one of the 12 available seats along with 16 other countries. — Bernama
