SIBU: Members of Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) have been assured that the party has the ‘blessing’ from Barisan Nasional (BN) top leadership to contest in seven key seats in the next parliamentary election.

According to party president and Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian, SUPP has been given the trust to contest in Bandar Kuching, Stampin, Serian, Sarikei, Sibu, Lanang and Miri.

This, he said, was reached during a high-level meeting between representatives of four BN component parties and also the BN central leadership on Sept 8 this year.

“The BN Sarawak chairman agreed with the decision. This is not what I say; the chief minister agreed with the decision made by the BN central chairman, who is the prime minister.

“Based on the aforesaid meeting, we already have the ‘blessing’ to contest in the seven seats,” he told over 2,000 participants of the Mid-Autumn Festival 2017 celebration at the Citizens Middle School in Stabau near here on Sunday evening.

The event was jointly hosted by SUPP Bukit Assek and SUPP Dudong.

Adding on, Dr Sim expressed his confidence in BN to wrest back Lanang from DAP in the next parliamentary election.

He observed that the constituency had been lagging behind other places in terms of development over the past five years, with telecommunications being the most serious among all the problems there.

“Support the BN-SUPP candidate in this election to ensure that your constituency would get what it deserves,” he told Lanang constituents.

Later at the event, Dr Sim handed out government grants to several Chinese schools.

Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing, political secretary to chief minister Michael Tiang, SUPP Dudong chairman Datuk Dr Soon Choon Teck, BN Lanang parliamentary area coordinator Chieng Buong Toon and BN Sibu parliamentary area coordinator Robert Lau Hui Yew were among those present.
