A fire that started at around 9am today, engulfed the longhouse Rh Usek Sumpit and destroyed an estimated 60 doors.
MIRI: 49 doors of Iban longhouse Rh Usek Sumpit in Sg Keriok Niah have been destroyed in a fire that broke out at around 9am today.
A team 20 personnel from Miri Fire and Rescue station (Bomba Miri) and Bomba Lopeng, and seven men from Niah Volunteers Firefighters Unit were deployed to the scene as soon as they received the distress call at 8.52am.
Zone 6 Fire and Rescue station chief, Supt Law Poh Kiong when contacted at 1.45pm today said that the 49 doors have been completely destroyed.
“About 350 villagers were made homeless but no casualties were reported,” he said.
The longhouse is located some 100km from Miri City.
