KUALA LUMPUR: Police have given their assurance that logistical preparation and security measures for the Sarawak state election are ready for mobilisation at any time.

The director of Internal Security and Public Order, Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar said police training in preparation for the election had been carried out fully and they were now streamlining further all equipment.

“We are ready in all aspects and are only waiting for the announcement to be made to mobilise our personnel and logistics to ensure security and the smooth running of the election,” he told Bernama when contacted, here yesterday. Khalid, who is now in Kuching to monitor the preparation, however declined to disclose the number of personnel assigned to ensure the smooth running of the election.

“I give my assurance that adequate personnel will be mobilised for the election to ensure the safety of the voters there,” he said.

He said this when asked to comment on speculation that the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly would be dissolved on Friday.

Yesterday, Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud denied that he would seek an audience with Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Abang Muhammad Salahuddin Abang Barieng on Friday to seek his consent to dissolve the State Legislative Assembly, which has 71 seats, whose term expires in July.
