KUCHING: An Indonesian man was sentenced to seven months’ jail after he pleaded guilty to a charge of retaining a stolen motorbike.

The accused Rino Anggara from Sengkawang in Indonesia appeared before Magistrate Maris Agan who convicted him of an alternative charge under Section 411 of the Penal Code.

He admitted to having retained the vehicle at a shophouse near Premier 101 here at about 10pm on May 17 this year.  Earlier Rino asked the court for a lenient sentence as he is a first time offender and was working to support his family in his home country.

He said he was remorseful and promised not to repeat the mistake. DPP Samira Khalili who carried out the prosecution urged the court to impose an appropriate sentence against the accused.

His jail term was to take effect from the date of delivery of judgment which was yesterday.
