Man claimed robbed by masked man

KUCHING: A man claimed he was robbed of RM17,000 in cash by a knife-wielding masked man moments after stepping out of a bank here.

The 28-year-old, who works for a multinational company, said the incident happened around 10.30am yesterday at Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho just after he had gotten back into his car, which was parked behind the bank.

He claimed that a man wearing a motorcycle helmet and a mask opened his car door and pointed a knife at him before grabbing a bag containing the cash, which he had placed on the front seat.

The robber then fled to a waiting Proton Wira, which sped off from the scene.

The victim later learned that several members of the public, who apparently witnessed the incident, were able to get part of the white Proton Wira’s licence plate number.

Police are investigating the case and are working to trace the vehicle used in the crime.

In another incident, a woman lost several hundred ringgit after falling victim to snatch thieves in front of a bank in Tabuan Laru yesterday.

The 44-year-old told police the incident occurred around 9.15am when two men on a motorcycle snatched her handbag and sped off before she could get a clear look at the bike’s licence plate number.

Apart from the cash, the victim also lost the keys to her house and car as well as a number of important personal documents.
