Labuan records increased organ donors

LABUAN: The island of Labuan may have a relatively small population but it is big on organ donation.

The number of people who registered as organ donors in the island has increased steadily over the years.

A total of 242 donors have so far registered, with the Chinese being the majority donors followed by Malays and other races.

Labuan Health Department director Dr Ismail Ali said there was a need to create awareness among Malaysians on the importance of donating organs.

He said the Labuan Hospital registered a total of 275 donors last year and as of June this year, there was an increased of 167 donors.

In an interview with Bernama today, he said an allocation had been channeled to the department to carry out more related programmes, including seminars, exhibitions, counseling and setting up of booths in the
meeting-the-people-session programmes.-Bernama
