MIRI: A motorcyclist was killed after he rammed his machine into the rear of a four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle at Bintulu-Miri Road near Rumah Awin Seloi, Bekenu on Wednesday.

Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said the incident happened around 4.50pm, when 18-year-old Steven Kelling Damu was riding towards Bekenu junction.

“Initial investigation indicated that the driver of the 4WD, a 64-year-old man who was travelling towards Bekenu junction from Rumah Johnson, was hit from behind by the deceased, who was riding his motorcycle in the same direction.

“It is suspected that the motorcyclist was unable to control his motorcycle that was travelling at high speed, which later caused it to collide with the 4WD from behind,” Alexson said when contacted yesterday.

He said Steven, from Rumah Buan, Sungai Malang in Bakong, Baram, was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.

He added that the 4WD driver was not injured in the incident.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
