SHAH ALAM: The police forces of Malaysia and Thailand will share expertise in tackling crime, including human trafficking, in both countries, said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan. He said that besides human trafficking, both police forces would also cooperate in controlling and monitoring cases such as drug trafficking, arms smuggling as well as terrorism involving both countries.

“The co-operation includes intensifying patrols at the entry points to both countries to ensure peace and security,” he said at the media conference after the meeting of the Departmental Review of Joint Malaysia-Thailand Working Committee on Criminal Activities, here yesterday.

Musa said both countries also agreed to provide information on crime committed by the nationals of the respective countries.

He also disclosed that at the meeting, Malaysia and Thailand had agreed to conduct joint training in tackling crime including exchanging training programmes between both countries. On the report claiming the existence of a militant training camp at the Malaysia-Thai border, Musa refuted it as there was no evidence to show such activities were taking place.

“There are no militants and the alleged camp does not exist,” he said.

Meanwhile, when asked on the statement by actress Azean Irdawaty appealing that Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Tun Hussein intervened in the drug case involving her son, Musa said: “It’s up to her, we can’t stop (her). Police are still investigating.”

Media reports yesterday stated that Azean was appealing for the intervention of the Home Minister in resolving the case of her son, Khaeryll Benjamin Ibrahim or Benjy, 32, who was being detained under Section 3 (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (Special Preventive Measures) 1985.

Also present at the media conference was the representative of the Royal Thailand Police (RTP) delegation, who is the RTP Security and Special Functions Advisor Police General Adul Sangsingkeo.
