KOTA KINABALU: The question as to who would be the State Speaker was answered when the Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman announced yesterday that Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Mohd Salleh Tun Said would fill the post.

Musa made the announcement after chairing the Cabinet meeting, adding that Salleh would be sworn in on Jan 17.

Salleh succeeds Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Juhar Mahiruddin who had been appointed Head of State.

Musa said, “Salleh is an experienced person and that is very important because we need someone with vast experience as the state Assembly Speaker is a very important post.”

According to him, Salleh who is currently Science Advisor to the Chief Minister will have to resign from the position.

Musa however stressed that there was no immediate plan to fill in the post vacated by Salleh and added that there would not be any Cabinet reshuffle.

Salleh when contacted, expressed his gratitude to Musa and promised to carry out his responsibility to the best of his abilities.

He also said that being Sabah Umno deputy liaison chief, he will continue to assist Musa to strengthen the party’s position in Sabah.

Salleh is also Kota Belud Umno divisional chief.

Salleh had previously served as Kota Belud District Officer, Deputy Chief Minister, Finance Minister, Local Government and Housing Minister as well as Chairman of Kraftangan Malaysia.

Last Tuesday, Jan 11, he was appointed Finas Chairman.
