Tengku Ampuan Bariah laid to rest next to husband

KUALA TERENGGANU: The mother of Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tengku Ampuan Bariah Al-Marhum Sultan Hisamuddin Alam Shah was laid to rest at the Royal Mausoleum, Al-Muktafibillah Shah Mosque, Ladang here yesterday.

She was buried next to her husband, Sultan Mahmud Iskandar Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Ismail  at  about  5pm.

Her remains arrived at the Sultan Mahmud Airport here from the Subang air base at 11.50am before they were taken by the Terengganu Religious Affairs Department’s hearse to Istana Maziah.

Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Nur Zahirah and their three children, who arrived with another aircraft, accompanied the hearse to the palace.

Tengku Ampuan Bariah, 78, passed away at the Seri Kota Specialist Hospital, Klang at 1.22am.

The remains  were placed at the Ceremonial Hall of the palace for the royal family led by Tuanku Mizan, state dignitaries, guests and the people to pay their last respects for about one hour from 2.05pm.

Raja Perempuan of Perlis Tengku Fauziah Almarhum Tengku Abdul Rashid and Tengku Puan of Pahang Tengku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, and Selangor, Johor, Kedah and Negeri Sembilan royalties were among those who paid their last respects.

The funeral prayer was held at Istana Maziah before Tengku Ampuan Bariah’s coffin was laid on a bier before the hearse headed for the Royal Mausoleum, Al-Muktafibillah  Shah  Mosque.

The hearse was accompanied by five officers and 64 men from the 18th battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment.

Tuanku Mizan and his son, Tengku Muhammad Mua’az, royalties and state dignitaries also accompanied the hearse on foot for four km to the Royal Mausoleum.

The burial ceremony was also witnessed by Tuanku Nur Zahirah, royalties and the people. — Bernama
