TAWAU: The Marine Operations Force (MOF) seized 7,000 cartons of ‘Mighty’ contraband cigarettes while patrolling the Kinabutan River mouth on Sunday.
Acting commanding officer ASP Krishnan A/L Ramasamy said the seizure was worth RM103,488, including taxes.
He said the seizure was made at 8pm after acting on public information and the cigarettes were found by the river kept in 14 boxes.
“The boxes were kept near the river and further inspection revealed that the cigarettes inside are believed to be smuggled,” he said adding that no suspects had been detained .
“All the cigarettes were brought to the MOF office and will be investigated under the Custom Act,” he said.
