Report fake egg purchases, consumers urged

IPOH: Consumers who have inadvertently bought “fake eggs” have been urged to immediately lodge a report with the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry so that the matter could be investigated and action taken against those involved.

Its deputy minister Datuk Tan Lian Hoe said it was difficult for his staff to determine whether eggs sold on the market were genuine or otherwise, and it was impossible for them to seize all egg supplies.

“For this reason, we need the cooperation of consumers to lodge a report if they come across the fake eggs,” he told reporters after a dialogue session with members of the Perak Sundry Shop Operators Association here today.

Tan explained that those caught selling such items were liable to a maximum fine of RM100,000 or three years’ jail, or both, if convicted, under the Trade Description Act 1972. – Bernama
