KOTA KINABALU: Kota Kinabalu City Hall is appealing to the developer of 1Borneo Hypermall to expedite the construction of the pedestrian overhead bridge at Jalan UMS.
Mayor Datuk Abidin Madingkir said the overhead bridge was supposed to be completed in July this year following a postponement from May.
Looking at the situation, he said he is doubtful that the bridge could be completed as scheduled, as there were no workers when he visited the site last week.
He also noted the same scenario when passing the area the week before.
Abidin hopes that the developer would expedite the construction of the bridge, as the provision of the overhead bridge was one of the requirements indicated in the approved development plans to the developer.
According to him, there have been accidents involving pedestrians reported along Jalan UMS and therefore wants the developer to look into the matter seriously and undertake to complete the bridge.
An elderly Korean tourist died after he was knocked down by a car while crossing the road from Alamesra to 1Borneo Hypermall in December last year.
Chu Chong Duk, 83, who was in Sabah for a holiday, was hit by a Proton Saga car, driven by a 53-year-old local man who was heading to the city centre from Sepanggar.
