Miss World Harvest Festival has talent

KUCHING: Miss World Harvest Festival (WHF) 2011 finalist Sharifah Elya Nabila Wan Saadie was also Miss Talent (subsidiary title) at the pageant yesterday.

The lanky 5’ 5” soulful singer took home RM1,000 cash, a trophy, sash, and bouquet of flowers for belting out Celine Dion’s ‘Power of Love’ and ‘I’m Alive’ to a wonderful dance choreography.

And just last month, she won the Ratu Cuti-Cuti 1Malaysia subsidiary title. Second and third places were won by Ashiela Bakri, 19, and Nor Faizah Abdul Latif, 18, respectively.

Ashiela sang ‘Strong Enough’ by Cher while former state gymnast Faizah, ‘Alive and On the Floor’ by Jennifer Lopez to the accompaniment of gymnastic floor moves. They took home cash prizes of RM700 and RM500 respectively.

The talent segment of the pageant held at the Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV) in Santubong was themed ‘Diva’ with each finalist having to sing any popular song by their chosen diva.

They were judged on talent, originality, creativity and costume.

The judges were theatre activists Zakaria Hassan and Eileen Chan; and popular local singer Norafizah Busman.

The prizes were presented by Datin Gloria Gembong the wife of Tourism and Heritage Sarawak Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Datu Ik Pahon Joyik.

The event aims to give publicity and promote ticket sales for the grand finale on May 28 and 29 at the SCV.

WHF 2011 tickets are now available at SCV (082-846411 or 846108) at RM25 per adult and RM15 per child for purchase before May 20.

After that, it is RM60 per adult and RM30 per child.
