MIRI: About 40 community sports clubs have been found to be inactive in the state, according to the Office of the Sports Commissioner (SC) of Malaysia.
They will be terminated if they are not performing in line the Youth and Sports Ministry’s objective of running community programmes in each of the state constituencies, the SC Office Sarawak branch officer Lamat Nyalau said.
These clubs must be pro-active in carrying out their activities or they will be struck off the register, he added.
According to Lamat, total of 104 sport bodies in the state have registered with SC Office as of April this year.
Of the number, he said, 14 are state level sport bodies, four are divisional level sport bodies and 86 are clubs.
“The SC Office wants all sport bodies registered to help it monitor their activities under the Youth and Sports Ministry,” Lamat told representatives of sports clubs from Kuching, Sibu, Limbang and Miri during a recent three-day seminar here.
According to him, registration would enable the SC Office to plan further development for the clubs.
He also said sport bodies were required to register with the Registry of Society before they could organise any activities.
He pointed out that the SC Office would not entertain unregistered sport bodies after Dec 31 this year.
