UNSATISFACTORY: Nordin pointing to the controversial football grandstand project.

MIRI: Villagers of Kampung Muhibbah, Kuala Baram want the contractor appointed to construct the grandstand at their football field to comply with the specifications required for the project.

Ketua Kaum Kampung Muhibbah, Kuala Baram, Nordin Yusof who was not happy with the completion of the grandstand questioned why it was not built to justify its cost of RM30,000.

“The contractor used old poles which were wrapped with cement, while most of the building materials were reused items from the old grandstand,” claimed Nordin, who contacted The Borneo Post to highlight the weakness.

According to Nordin, the allocation was a grant to the village’s security and development committee (JKKK) from Miri MP Datuk Seri Peter Chin.

However, he said, the grant was never given to the JKKK but directly given to the contractor.

He claimed that the project was not done satisfactorily, citing the grandstand wall and floor had cracked due to poor workmanship.

Nordin also claimed that the contractor left a mound of earth at the football     field which damaged a part of it.

Dissatisfied and after receiving complaints from villagers, Nordin wrote a letter to Senadin assemblyman Datuk Lee Kim Shin to seek help in overcoming the problem.

He said before constructing the grandstand, the contractor had promised to build a toilet there.

A look at the grandstand revealed that the cost was far below the contract sum, he said further, urging the authority concerned not to simply award projects to contractors who do not perform well.

The project was started early last May and completed  the same month.
