Tenom youth movement receives premier award

KOTA KINABALU: The Youth Movement Malaysia (YMM) Tenom division was awarded the Premier Youth Organisation Award yesterday.

The division youth organisation which was established on May 11, 1991, won RM5,000 in cash prize, a trophy and monetary administration assistance of RM10,000 during the Premier State Youth Convention cum State-level National Youth Award presentation ceremony for 2011 held at a resort near here.

The Tenom division was recognised for its contribution in organising various youth related activities, among them, blood donation campaigns to inculcate caring youths, youth training camps, social activities, sporting events and several others.

Meanwhile, Azlan Jumaan, 35, from Tawau was named as the recipient of the ‘Daya Juang Malaysia Boleh’ Award for his national and international accomplishment as a mountaineer.

Azlan has scaled world’s highest via ferrata (rope) on Mt Kinabalu as well as three peaks in the Himalayas, which are Kala Patthar of Everest, Yala peak and Yak Kharka.

He won RM3,000 and a trophy.

St John Ambulance (for rural Sabah) chairman, Lee Cheng Peng was awarded the Youth (male) Award and walked away with RM3,000 cash prize and a trophy.

The Youth Leadership Award went to Nourman Datuk Awang Zaini, 35, for his contribution as a scout.

Nourman left his full-time employment to serve the State Division Malaysia Federal Scouts around the clock.

He has taken part in the Korea Scouts Exchange Programme, Asia-Pacific Regional course for international leaders, Asean Jamboree in Cibubur Jakarta, West Lancashire community service project, Sweden adopted child programme, World Scouts Jamboree in Melbourne, Australia and various other international activities.

In recognition, he was presented with RM3,000 cash and a trophy.

Tengku Ahmad Sukri Tengku Mansor, 34, was recognized for his innovation and was the recipient of the Innovation and Creativity Award.

He was a finalist in the Sabah Innovation competition organised by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) and the State representative in the Malaysia Inventors Challenge organized by SIRIM Berhad, MOSTI and TV3.

Mohd Al Hanafi Osman of Keningau was recognized for his entrepreneurship in the Youth Entrepreneur Award and won RM3,000 and a trophy.

Other award recipients were Heneritta Gunting (Social Activity Award). She also won RM3,000 and a trophy.

Present to grace the event were Federal Youth and Sports Minister Dato Seri Ahmad Sabery, Youth and Sports Minister, Datuk Peter Pang and Assistant Youth and Sports Minister  Datuk Jahid Jahim.
