KOTA KINABALU: The High Court yesterday allowed an application for a stay of execution by a local hawker, who was sentenced to four years’ jail for consuming syabu last year.

Justice Datuk Abdul Rahman Sebli granted the application by Tsen Tze Loong, 22, pending an appeal against the lower court’s decision and released Tsen on RM3,500 bail with two local sureties, pending the disposal of his case.

Deputy public prosecutor Mohamed Zairi Zainal Abidin  for the respondent, did not object to the application.

Magistrate Herlina Muse had last Tuesday sentenced Tsen to four years’ jail after he was found guilty of consuming the drug.

Tsen was arrested at the Karamunsing police station on Oct 12 last year after his urine sample tested positive for drug abuse.

Herlina had also ordered Tsen to be placed under police supervision for three years.
