REMBAU: A woman’s dream holiday to Nepal was shattered even before she reached the airport yesterday morning when she was involved in a fatal accident at KM235.4 of the North-South Highway near the Pedas-Linggi toll plaza.
According to a traffic police spokesman, both Leong How Yin, 39, and the driver of the taxi she was in, Azahar Abd Karim, 42, died on the spot in the 5.30am incident.
“The accident occurred when the Naza Citra airport limo crashed into a lorry laden with beer barrels. Just a few minutes earlier, the lorry had skidded, crashed into the divider and overturned on the outer lane,” he told Bernama.
The lorry driver and his assistant were nowhere to be found.
The bodies of Leong from Bukit Beruang, Melaka and Azahar, who was from Alor Gajah near here, were sent to the Tampin Hospital.
Meanwhile, Leong’s husband, Liew Chee Keong, in his 40s, who arrived at the scene of the accident from Melaka claimed that he failed to find his wife’s documents including her passport and an undisclosed sum of cash. — Bernama
