ALOR SETAR: Confident after getting away with three robberies of a 24-hour convenience store armed with a toy gun, a man came back for the fourth time but ended up getting a beating for it.

The suspect, a former army personnel who went AWOL, struck at the store in Jalan Sultanah here about 4.40pm Saturday.

The shop’s staff Md Mizan Nur Rahman, 37, said the suspect barged in and pointed a ‘gun’ at the cashier, Md Shairajul Islam, 32. The suspect then ordered Shairajul to fill a plastic bag with RM500, cigarettes, cosmetics, and mobile phone top up cards, just as he did the past three times.

“When Shairajul refused, the robber became aggressive and that’s when Shairajul reached for a machete from under the counter.  We then managed to wrestle and pin him down,” said Md Mizan.

The suspect, 29, received head injuries and Shairajul was bitten on both his ears in the incident.

Kota Setar acting police chief Supt Baharom Abu confirmed one of the  store’s worker called the police after the suspect was nabbed. — Bernama
