MIRI: The Women’s Neighbourhood Watch Committee (RT) of Hilltop Garden held a `Pre-X’mas Party’ at the stage in front of shoplots at Hilltop Garden.

The organising committee was led by chairlady, Lau Ai Nyuk.

There was a good turnout of children and adults from the surrounding housing estates.

There were stage performances by local dance groups, children singing presentation, lucky draws, karaoke, exchange of Christmas gifts and games to make it a fun night, especially for the young revellers.

“This is all towards a common objective … to celebrate together regardless of race, religion or creed the birthday of the Messiah, Jesus Christ.

“Everybody gets to mingle to enhance peace and unity to create a caring neighbourhood,” Lau told The Borneo Post when met at the celebration.

Earlier on the same day, the committee held a `Charity Food-cum-Jumble Sales’ at the same venue, officiated by Datuk Sebastian Ting, political secretary to the Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Peter Chin.

According to Lau, all proceeds would be donated to the Community-Based Rehabilitation Centre (PDK) in Piasau Camp here.

“We raised close to our RM5,000 target from the sales and will hand over the donation to the PDK after next Chinese New Year.”

The committee also hosted an Eco-Bag Exhibition at the premises in front of shophouses at Hilltop
Garden.

The event was initiated to educate residents, particularly the women, on the negative effects of using plastic bags.

“The plastic bags are harmful to the environment, thus via this exhibition, we hope to raise awareness that they should bring along eco-bags when shopping,” Lau said.
