‘Positive outcome expected from meeting to discuss RCI formation’

KOTA KINABALU: A positive outcome is expected from the meeting to discuss the setting up of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on illegal immigrants and fake MyKads issues in the federal cabinet meeting on February 8, said Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) president Datuk Liew Vui Keong.

He said most Sabahans were encouraged by the development and were expecting something positive to come out from the meeting.

“Many discussions were held and the last was with the Deputy Prime Minister when he was here last month where it was agreed, amongst other things, for a joint consultative meeting to be held soonest with the Home Ministry, the State Government, the Election Commission (SPR) and the Barisan Nasional (BN) state component parties on various procedural and preliminary matters,” he said, adding most Sabahans were encouraged by the development.

Liew said that when asked to comment on the issue after attending the Kota Kinabalu Journalists Association (KKJA) Chinese New Year luncheon here yesterday.

The Prime Minister assured Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Tan Sri Bernard Dompok that the matter of setting up the RCI would be discussed in the federal cabinet meeting on Feb 8.

Dompok, in sharing the most-awaited news at the Chinese New Year luncheon cum gathering organised by the Kepayan Rumah Murah Residents Committee here on Saturday, disclosed that Najib had given him the assurance during a recent meeting in Putrajaya.

Barisan Nasional and opposition leaders in Sabah have been calling for the setting up of RCI to probe into the perennial illegal immigrants issue in the state.
