Cause of UNPOL officer’s death not yet known

KUCHING: The cause of death of United Nations Police (UNPOL) Inspector Benet Pawun had yet to be determined, said Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani.

He said a post-mortem conducted at the Darwin Hospital in Australia could not ascertain the reason behind the death and thus, further tests were needed.

“To date, we have yet to be told about the cause of death, and we hope we will be informed as soon as possible because the United Nations (UN) also wants to know the cause,” he told reporters after receiving the police officer’s remains here Saturday.

Pawun, 52, who served UNPOL in Dili, Timor Leste since last October, died on Feb 7.

He will be buried in his village in Mayang Kawan, Tebakang, Serian at 10am tomorrow. –Bernama
