Statutory declaration replaces MyKad in transfer of vehicle ownership with immediate effect

PUTRAJAYA: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) is enforcing the use of statutory declaration, instead of MyKad certified by a Commissioner of Oaths in the transfer of vehicle ownership with immediate effect.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha said this was decided following a discussion between the JPJ and the Registrar of Federal Court emanated from feedback from vehicle owners and used vehicle operators.

“A registered owner and a new owner of a vehicle must complete a declaration form before the transfer is made and then confirmed by the Commissioner of Oaths appointed by the Federal Court,” he said in statement today.

Kong said the forms can be downloaded from the JPJ portal at www.jpj.gov.my.

Anyone found making a false declaration in the statutory declaration is liable under the Statutory Declaration Act 1960.

Kong said the JPJ would be holding a briefing for the Federation of Motor and Credit Companies of Malaysia and the Malaysia Motorcycle and Scooter Dealers Association on the use of statutory declaration on Sunday. — Bernama
