MIRI: People are called to give their full respect to democracy that had been practised by the country all this while.
Speaking at the Toastmaster Charter Night organised by Miri Toastmasters Club at Imperial Hotel last Saturday, Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water Datuk Seri Peter Chin said that democratic principles gives people an opportunity or equal say in decisions that affect their lives.
Chin, who is also Miri MP, wanted them to reject the negative ideology of political extremism.
It is because such negative political ideology would only bring chaos to racial harmony and prevailing peace in the country.
“It is sad to note that lack of understanding of politics tends to make some people develop a wrong view of politics, thus giving them a perception that politics is dirty.”
Hence, he clarified that politics is actually not all about corruption.
Touching on the charter night, he said successful communication is always essential and crucial for success in life.
“It is a skill that nobody can take away from you. It is an asset that cannot be inherited. Nevertheless, the experiences could be pass down to those who are willing to possess it.
“I am happy to see that many of you have invested appropriately to be toastmasters.
“This is an institution where communication and leadership skills could be enhanced through daily practices.”
In view of that, he urged toastmasters to share and practice communication and leadership skills acquired.
Later at the same function, four toastmaster clubs received their respective charter certificates.
The clubs were Alpha Diamond Excel Miri TMC, Permyjaya Bilingual TMC, Alpha Miri Hakka TMC and Miri Sainsri TMC.
Also present were Assistant Minister of Communications Datuk Lee Kim Shin, political secretary Datuk Sebastian Ting and immediate past district governor Mohd Ariff Azahari.
