BURSA MALAYSIA: KL shares reverse losses in early trading

KUALA LUMPUR: Share prices on Bursa Malaysia reversed yesterday’s losses in early trading today, dealers said.

The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was up 2.69 points at 1,600.2, 50 minutes after the opening.

Dealers said stronger-than-expected US retail data boosted market sentiment, but concerns over Spain’s debt situation capped gains.

The Finance Index gained 6.03 points to 14,293.91, the Plantation Index rose 17.66 points to 8,836.86 and the Industrial Index advanced 1.98 points to 2,871.41.

The FBM Emas Index went up 17.18 points to 10,976.81, the FBM Mid 70 Index perked 12.68 points to 12,071.43 and the FBM Ace Index climbed 24.53 points to 4,527.14.

Gainers outpaced losers 182 to 122, while 230 counters were unchanged, with turnover at 398.482 million shares worth RM154.567 million.

Among actives, Ariantec Global added three sen to 14.5 sen, Metronic improved 1.5 sen to 17 sen and Ingenuity Solutions was unchanged at 9.5 sen.

For the heavyweights, Maybank was flat at RM8.85, Sime Darby advanced one sen to RM8.89, CIMB added two sen to RM7.63 and Petronas Chemicals was up three sen to RM6.74. –Bernama
