KOTA KINABALU: A 63-year-old man was found dead on the staircase of a budget hotel at Kampung Air here yesterday.

The body of Quee Boon @ Michael of Taman Foh Sang, Luyang, was found on the staircase leading to the first floor of the budget hotel by members of the public around 11.55am.

It is believed that Quee, who owned a florist outlet in Lido, Luyang, was delivering flowers in the area when he collapsed on the staircase.

According to the wife of the deceased, identified as Wong Lee Yin, 60, she had called him on his handphone a number of times but there was no response.

“I called him up a few times to tell him that we have deliveries to make but he did not answer the calls.

“I was shocked when someone else answered and telling me that my husband was found unconscious on a staircase.

“I immediately informed my daughter and we rushed to the place here only to find that my husband was already dead,” she said when met at the scene yesterday.

It was learnt that Quee had suffered a minor stroke last year but recovered early this year.

Meanwhile, city police chief Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Sofi Zakaria, when contacted yesterday, dismissed any foul play in the case.

“Our initial investigation has led us to believe that the deceased had a stroke and we have classified the case as one of sudden death,” he said.

The victim’s daughter and her mother at the scene yesterday.

Ahmad Sofi said the body had been taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for a post-mortem.
