SIBU: Most civilians are happy to see cops patrolling the street but Sibu Jaya residents have cops as neighbours.
A three-acre complex occupied by a force of more than 60 police personnel is enough to scare the living daylights of any potential criminal.
“Elsewhere, people resort to reinforce security using surveillance and monitoring systems or stay in gated communities, but folks in Sibu Jaya have a fantastic neighbour ready to spring into action in times of need,” according to a press release from Amcorp yesterday.
And yes, the Royal Malaysian Police have a ‘house’ in Sibu’s twin town. And mind you, not just a tiny ‘pondok’ but a huge three acre complex!
“With a force of more than 60 police personnel staying and working here, you know you are in safe hands when in Sibu Jaya. Like all police stations, the Sibu Jaya complex is open 24 hours a day and seven days a week.
“So, even if you were standing at the furthermost point from the centre of Sibu Jaya, it takes our friendly men-in-blue a mere two minutes to come to your rescue,” assured the press release.
The construction of the police complex began in early 2007 and was completed three years later in 2009.
Since then, it has become a permanent fixture which is part of everyday life in Sibu Jaya.
Almost everybody knows everybody else in this growing township and the police mingle easily with folks here.
Would-be criminals are reminded that the cops may be friendly to people but have zero tolerance to crime.
“We do not take kindly to troublemakers and criminals and we have no problem arresting them on sight,” said a stern-looking officer.
“Being part of Sibu Jaya, we take great pride in working to ensure that our neighbours are protected.”
The strong police presence in the growing township certainly gives a sense of security as folks go about their daily acitvities.
