KUALA PILAH: Thirty offsprings were born by two yellow anacondas, at the Python Park in Ulu Bendul, Kuala Pilah on May 3 and 19.
Negeri Sembilan Forestry director Ahmad Fadzil Abdul Majid said the anaconda is one of the snake species that do not lay eggs, but give birth.
“The baby snakes measure about 30 centimetres and weigh between 200 and 300 grammes each and would be fed mice after 10 days, and then shown to the public after six months,” he said.
“It was also a milestone for the park when a green anaconda gave birth to 15 offsprings in June 2011. The green anaconda was pregnant when we bought it from Brazil and now we have 16 green anacondas in the park,” he said.
The park was first opened to the public on Oct 1 2010 with only seven snakes, and was the only python park in Asia.
However, to date, the park has 45 snakes including the Colombia Rainbow boa, Brazilian Rainbow boa, Carpet Python and yellow Anaconda. — Bernama
