KUCHING: An unemployed woman was fortunate to have escaped relatively unharmed when a group of men robbed her at knife-point before attempting to force her into a dark alley.

The incident happened around 2.30am yesterday when the 21-year-old woman and a 17-year-old male friend were confronted by five men while they were walking along a small lane in Padungan.

Sensing the men were up to no good, the victim and her friend tried to run away, but the former was grabbed by the group and pushed against a wall before having a knife placed against her neck.

According to her, the men first relieved her of her handbag, which contained a mobile phone and RM150 in cash, before taking turns caressing her breasts.

She added that they then tried to drag her into a dark alley behind a row of shop houses, but changed their minds and fled when a car coincidentally turned into the alley.

In an unrelated incident, a civil engineer suffered an estimated RM12,000 in losses when his house at Mile 5 1/2 Penrissen was broken into yesterday.

The engineer, in his 40s, made the discovery around 10.30am after realising a door at the rear of his house had been forced open.

Upon checking, he found items such as jewellery, a laptop, a digital camera and bottles of liquor had been carted away.

Separately, a woman lost her mobile phone and RM900 in cash when she became a victim of snatch theft yesterday morning.

The 25-year-old, originally from Belaga, was walking past a restaurant at Jalan Song Thian Chiok when two men on a motorcycle grabbed her handbag from behind and sped off.

The incident happened so fast that the victim was unable to record the bike’s registration number, and only managed to notice both men were wearing full-face helmets.

All three incidents have been reported to the police for investigation.
