NABAWAN: Dignitaries and government officials are not exempted from the anti-litter law when enforced, said Assistant Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Datuk Bobbey Ahfang Suan.
He said no individual would be spared if he commits an offence.
“If dignitaries and government officials are found littering, they will certainly be fined according to the rates set by the local authority,” he said when launching the district-level anti-litter campaign at an open stage here yesterday.
He said awareness in addressing the litterbug problem was very important to keep the town environment clean, beautiful and attractive.
“A town that is clean is not only attractive to tourists but also gives comfort to the people,” he said.
Citing Singapore as an example of the attitude and discipline of its people, Bobbey said a town with a clean environment could be created when the local community realizes the importance of hygiene.
At the launch, the District Office, National Registration Department, District Education Office, District Council Offices, Yayasan Usaha Maju, SK Pekan Nabawan and SMK Pekan Nabawan were declared buildings without rubbish.
Present at the function were Assistant District Officer (Development) Aloysius Anthony, District Council executive officer Rizal Maulah, heads of government departments and community leaders.
