KENINGAU: The Federal Government has allocated RM11 million to upgrade three roads in Sook near here.
Announcing this yesterday during a working visit to Pensiangan parliamentary area, Works Minister Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor said the RM11 million would be used to upgrade the roads in Kampung Sodomon-Mailo, Kampung Biah Tengah-Biah Scheme and Kampung Biah Ring.
He said of the total, RM3 million was provided for 1.8km road upgrading project in Kampung Sodomon-Mailo, RM5 million for 6km road in Kampung Biah Tengah-Biah scheme and RM3 million for the 2km road in Kampung Biah Ring.
“Infrastructure development for rural roads is one of the six National Key Result Areas (NKRA) so that the people in the rural areas would not be left behind in national development,” he said.
In this regard, he urged all parties responsible for upgrading the roads to complete the projects to achieve the developed nation status by 2020.
Shaziman said once the upgrading was completed, more than 3,000 residents and road users in the surrounding area would benefit.
He said road upgrading work in Kampung Sodomon-Mailo started on June 19, while other roads would be implemented not later than early August this year and were scheduled for completion end of this year.
Also present were Assistant Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister and Sook assemblyman Datuk Ellron Alfred Angin, Sook assistant district officer Primus Takom and Pensiangan parliamentary liaison officer Vincent Lee.
