MIRI: It was indeed a fun-filled day for dogs, their handlers and spectators at the 2nd Piasau Animal Welfare Support (Paws) Doggie Show 2012 held at the Civic Centre yesterday.

A total of 19 non-pedigree dogs and their owners took part in the dog show which was divided into six categories: obedience (sit, stay and come, lay down, follow owner), agility (jumping, through hoop, over hurdle) five fences, pool event, dress-up and eating competition (dogs and their owners get to eat).

The overall champion received RM250 plus trophy and a big bag of dog food, while the top three winners in each category receive cash prizes and dog
food.

Various other activities held were lucky draws, bouncy castle for kids, booths for Paws merchandise, QQ Pet Shop, V Pet Center, Dog Lovers Salon, Pretty Paws, and Dog in the House.

Organising chairlady Natascha Caldenhove said Paws brought some animals for adoption.

She said the show aimed to create public awareness of how to care for pets, and to reduce and eventually have a stray-free Miri by getting the canines adopted.
