Don’t rest on your laurels, school reminded

MIRI: The management of Riam Road Secondary School (RRSS) should not be too complacent with the school’s current success and achievements.

Instead, its co-chairman Dato’ Sri Law Kiu Kiong wants them to keep up the momentum to drive the school towards greater heights of achievement in various fields.

“I am really pleased to note that the management has given its total commitment to drive the school towards success.

“Most important is the strong support from the various sectors particularly the Chinese community which has making the school one of the most successful Chinese independent schools in the state,” he stated in his address when officiating at RRSS’s Extravaganza IV Concert at Miri Civic Centre yesterday.

In view of that, Law wants the school to aims high to return thanks for the support that has been rendered by the people to the school all this while.

On the concert, he gave his full support to the event, which indirectly provided a good platform for the students to develop their discipline, self-reliance and creativity.

At the same time, a concert like this has enabled them to socialize with others from different racial backgrounds, which he described as supporting the implementation of the 1Malaysia Concept.

“This concert has given the students an opportunity to show off their respective “soft skills” and talent.

“Being involved in the organising committee, the students would gain additional knowledge on event organizing of which they would not able to learn in classroom,” he remarked.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the school Dato’ Dr Fong Onn Min said the school has conducted various education transformations in order to increase the school’s competitiveness.

At the same time, he said the school has also upgraded its school facilities and improved their teaching skills.

Meanwhile, some 500 students was involved in the concert which staged a range of performances including a solo saxophone, 24 seasonal drums, choir, Chinese Opera Xi Fong in the 60s’, modern dance, Bruin’s Drumline Show, wushu demonstration, and modern dances.
