KAPIT: Personal touch and constantly going to the ground to meet the people are factors that make good leaders, says Hulu Rajang MP Datuk Billy Abit Joo.

He should know for as a five-term MP he has the experience.

He said that as a people’s representative he had been moving around in his constituency to meet the people irrespective of their background and political standing.

“I stress on the importance of having personal touch with the people. This is one of the reasons why I have been vigorously moving around in Baleh and Belaga to visit my constituents regardless of background or political standing.

“I still continue to visit them even though many people did not vote for me in the 2008 election which happened to be my lowest winning margin in five elections.

He said this at the 5-in-1 function at Rumah Bakap, Sungai Asap in Belaga recently. The function consisted of handing over of paddy thrasher and rubber mangle to the villagers, opening of the car-park, commissioning of water pipe, handing over of BRIM to the successful applicants and handing over of RM15,000 MRP grant to Village security and Development Committee of Uma Bakah to improve their piped water supply and RM5,000 to run their activities.

He also presented RM3,000 grant to the village to purchase musical instrument and RM45,000 for the repair of the church.

Abit went on to tell the people to continue giving their support to the BN government and its candidates this coming election.

“Only the BN can deliver and only BN can keep its promises,” he said.

SAO of Sungai Asap sub-district Kuba Lusat, Pemanca Umek Jeno, Penghulu Saging Bit, Penghulu Katan Lawai, Padan Bisau (Uma Bakah), Ding Ajang (Uma Belor), Gun Imang (Uma Kulit), Tingang Jati (Uma Penan Lusong Laku) and Osman Jau (Uma Long Nanyan) were among those present.
