KUCHING: Students are urged to read more, listen and follow news on television and radio to gain more knowledge and to learn and master English and other languages.
Vice chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) Prof Datuk Dr Khairuddin Abdul Hamid said that apart from reference books, he said that students could improve their language and knowledge from news in print or electronic media.
“I, myself learn much from the news. I read newspaper or browse news online. Useful information is sometime available in news publication and not from reading materials,” he told members of the media at the breaking of fast here on Tuesday.
He also commended the local and national media for working together with the university through good and bad times for the past 20 years since its establishment.
“Our identity that has been shaped by the media and our goodwill are known not only locally but internationally through their publicity.”
On another note, he said that Unimas would hold its convocation this year on Oct 12 and 13 and gala night on Dec 12.
