SIBU: Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) will do its best to solve road and drainage problems despite limited manpower.
Temenggong Vincent Lau said this at a cleaning campaign at Rejang Park co-hosted by SMC and SUPP Rejang Park yesterday morning.
“SMC will do its level best following complaints on road and drainage problems. But when there are so many problems in different places, SMC may not meet all the demands due to limited manpower,” Lau said.
He suggested that a solution was for every related authority, complainant and the community to work together.
He said preserving the cleanliness of environment was the council’s job but everyone had a role to play.
“Don’t throw rubbish indiscriminately into drains,” he said on maintenance as the council had already done its job of cleaning them.
“We hope to beef up the cleanliness level in our surroundings,” he said.
Lau hoped the council would organise a cleaning campaign one to two times a year in various locations.
“Get the associations together with various organisations as well as business operators involved in such meaningful activity,” he said.
Lau said cleanliness was important as the state of the environment directly affected health.
“The consequences are bad if we ignore it,” he said.

Lau said a cleaning campaign served to educate and motivate people on the importance of cleanliness.
Pupils from SJK Taman Rajang took part in the campaign yesterday, picking up rubbish from the commercial area at Rejang Park and the recreational park next to it.
SMC’s workers clean the drains in the residential area and the council sent five lorries there to collect garbage.
Among those present were SUPP Rejang Park chairman Kapitan Lau Nai Ting and Sibu Rajang Port Authority chairman Vincent Goh and business operators.
