SIBU: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) is unperturbed by SWP’s announcement of having identified candidates for the impending general election.
PRS deputy president Datuk Joseph Entulu yesterday said his party, being a component party of BN, would fight with the full might of BN to win the election.
He was reacting to SWP president Larry Sng’s statement that SWP had identified six candidates to contest in PRS’ six parliamentary seats in Sri Aman, Lubok Antu, Julau, Selangau, Kanowit and Hulu Rajang.
At a press conference at SWP headquarters in Kuching on Wednesday to announce the party’s personal accident insurance coverage for party members, Larry was quoted to have said that he would reveal who these candidates were at the right time.
“Their announcement is nothing new to PRS, as they are basically singing the same old tune. It is only wishful thinking on the part of SWP that it will replace PRS after the election.
“We are ready to face off any opponent this coming parliamentary election and with the full might of BN, we will overwhelm our opponents,” Entulu, who is Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development and Selangau MP, told The Borneo Post.
Meanwhile, words from the grapevine had it that former Marudi police chief and SWP legal advisor Jonathan Jalin would stand in Lubok Antu under SWP ticket.
Another speculation had it that part-time lecturer and Iban singer Ellison Ludan might be fielded in Kanowit whereas Meluan assemblyman and former SPDP vice-president Wong Judat would lock horns with incumbent Datuk Joseph Salang of PRS in Julau.
SWP deputy president George Lagong was speculated to be the candidate for Hulu Rajang and Larry might battle it out in Selangau.
Speculations on SWP candidate for Sri Aman remain elusive.
Entulu reiterated his challenge for either Larry or his father Datuk Sng Chee Hua to fight him in Selangau.
“Based on ground feedback, many polling stations in Kakus and Tamin areas, which made up Selangau parliamentary constituency, had registered increased votes for BN as seen in the last state election.
“This is seen as an increase in support for BN in Selangau,” he said.
