LEFT IDLE: The tower clock that needs urgent repair, as it is largely seen as a white elephant.

MIRI: Party Islam SeMalaysia (PAS) has questioned the authorities concerned on why the Tower Clock at the recreational park (Taman Bulatan) here was still not functioning.

Miri PAS chief Jofri Jaraiee said they received many complaints from the public regarding the matter and they wished to know the reason.

“They called our office to voice out their grievances, saying that it is a waste of taxpayers’ money if the clock is left idle there and not serviced back to functioning properly,” he told The Borneo Post.

Jofri hoped the relevant authorities could look into the problem and get it resolved as soon as possible for the convenience of the people, particularly those who frequent the area for strolling and jogging, who wish to know the time.

“They maintain they have the right to insist that the clock be repaired or upgraded.

“As taxpayers, they also
feel they have the right to know if the cost of repairing the clock is too high and that the authorities cannot afford it,” he said.

He claimed that the cost of the construction of the clock tower was worth millions of ringgit.

Sadly, it has become a ‘white elephant’, he claimed further.

Jofri, who is also Sarawak PAS deputy commissioner III, said cooperation from all the relevant parties would be highly appreciated and valued.

Taman Bulatan is a popular spot for joggers as well as those who go for an evening stroll with their families.

It is also a strategic venue for functions and other outdoor activities.

The area is located near Saberkas Commercial Centre and a walking distance from Boulevard Shopping Mall.
