Salang my sole enemy in BN, says Meluan representative

WONG Judat (SWP-Meluan) yesterday said his only enemy in the Barisan Nasional (BN) is Julau MP Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum.

It was for this reason that he quit Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP), a BN coalition, recently and joined Sarawak Workers Party (SWP) in order to contest against Salang.

Debating the Supply Bill 2013, Wong claimed that it was the wish of the people in Julau to have a local as their elected representative.

“I like to take this opportunity to apologise to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, SPDP president Tan Sri William Mawan, all presidents of state BN component parties and throughout the country for quitting BN.

“However, I will not be an enemy to BN in other seats.”

He asserted that his decision to quit BN was merely to unseat Salang, who has been nominated by Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) to defend Julau.

Wong, whose membership with SWP was endorsed last Sept 1, has been at loggerheads with Salang for a long time, and had on several occasions declared his intention to contest in Julau.

His joining SWP also made him as among the party’s vice presidents.

Wong also touched on land issues at Tekoyong Land District which have been issued with Provisional Lease (PL) to a local company.

He alleged that the land also covered the ‘pemakai menoa’ of folks from more than 20 longhouses, stretching from Ulu Kanowit, Engkamop, and Entaih to Ulu Entabai.

He pointed out that the longhouses folks did not agree with the issuance of the PL.

He thus called on the government to retract the said PL.
